Workshop: 2019 Organic Gardening Group – Session 1

Sprouts Food and Health Co-operative is pleased to offer the

“2019 Organic Gardening and Wellness Group Workshop Series“

Date: March 23 to October 14, 2019 (Saturdays). Meeting bi-weekly mostly on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month starting March to October. A total of 12 meetings. The dates are listed below which may subject to change due to speaker availability.

Dates are: March 16 (GM food and Organic food – a separate event), March 23, April 13, April 27, May 11, May 25, June 8, June 22, July 13, July 27, Aug 17, Sept 14, Sept 28, Oct 14

Time: 11 noon to 1 pm (We may share and try out healthy food/snacks)

The topic for March 23 (session 1): Basics of growing your own organic food, and growing ginger and turmeric

Capacity: 40 seats (first come first serve)

Venue: Workshops are conducted at two venues:

(a) 22 Ensa Park Drive, Markham (Markham Wesley Centre)

(b) 4077 Highway 7, Markham (Sheridan Nurseries). 10% discount coupon for in-store purchase is offered to participants when the workshops are conducted at the nurseries.

Purpose: To learn about organic gardening, share experience and harvest, learn about healthy recipes and healthy living knowledge

Content: We walk through the growing cycle with participants starting in Spring, from choosing the seeds, preparing the backyard or small containers, germinating the seeds, transplanting the seedlings, enriching the soil, controlling weeds and bugs, collecting seeds, harvesting, decomposing to prepare for winter to finally enjoying the harvest together.

Language: Mainly Cantonese, English interpretation upon request. Language may vary depending on speakers. (Translation available upon request)

Fees: Sprouts members – $5/session, $55 for the whole program (12 sessions). $50 if pay before March 23 for the whole program.

Non-members – $7/session, $75 for the whole program.

Sprouts membership fee: $5 for a lifetime.
